Luke 19:28-44
Jesus is finally right in front of Jerusalem. He can see the city from the Mount of Olives and prepares to enter. His disciples (the larger group of hundreds, not just the twelve) are ready to crown Him King and see Him overthrow the Romans and set them up as His underlings. They've seen His miracles, they know He has power. Why would He not now set up His Kingdom with such power? Oh ya, He said that He wouldn't, but don't confuse them with the facts! Jesus is the King and rides into Jerusalem as such. He loves this city and weeps over its blindness. They're going to kill their King in their blindness, several years later the city will be leveled by the Romans because of their blindness and it hits Jesus hard. He loves them, and wants what's best for them but He is also just. They will suffer the consequences for their choices.
Is Jesus King in your life? Is He only King when He does what you want or when you think you can get something out of Him or is He always King, even when you must obey despite yourself? What areas in our lives are we blinded from because we don't really want Jesus to change us but we want Him to change our circumstances? Jesus is always King, whether we acknowledge it our not, whether He is the kind of King we want Him to be or not. If we go against the King, we will eventually pay for it. Let us live under the King and live well.
