We check the weather to help us decide what to wear, or what traffic might be like. We look at market forecasts and other news items to figure out what is going on in the world and to help make our own plans for the future. We worry so much about so many different things that might affect our day to day lives but if that is all we are worried about then Jesus calls us hypocrites. We should be looking around us with eyes like Jesus. We should be calling sinners to repentance and growing them in the faith while we still have time. We should be building and preparing God's kingdom and looking and being ready for the return of Jesus.
If we really live for Jesus here and now, there will be those who think we are foolish, crazy, or even hostile. The may even come from within our own families. Does your family keep you from stepping out in faith in a way that you know you should? Sometimes we are too concerned about hurting the feelings of those close to us so we don't live by faith as we know we should. Sometimes Jesus calls us to live a radical life that we know the rest of our family would find weird and uncomfortable, they might even try and talk us out of it, but will we do it? Will we live the life Jesus has called us to even if it means conflict or estrangement from family and friends? Will we really follow Jesus? Do we believe that He knows where He is going? Do we really believe that where He is leading us is best even if it means we have to leave others behind? There will be times that we have to choose Jesus over others we love, but be sure, Jesus doesn't ever get lost.
