Jesus wants it all, if we even know what that means

If Jesus hasn’t said it before, He says it now. Want to follow Jesus? You must give up everything that you have, everything. You have to take up your cross, a Roman torcher device. This is all out, no turning back devotion. I hesitate to even blog about this because I don’t think we really even have a clue what Jesus is talking about. Most of us would not even give up a latte, television show, or favorite music style for Jesus. Oh sure we say that we would, but what we really do is make Jesus into what we would like Him to be, not what He really is. This means that we make our own god and call it Jesus.
We will follow Jesus so long as He doesn’t really ask all that much of us. Some of us are so blind to what Jesus really wants from us that we think that Jesus only wants us to be comfortable and happy with all the physical comforts that we need. If we don’t have these things than there must be something wrong like we don’t have enough faith or we are doing something wrong. Jesus in His own words calls us to something much more extreme. True Jesus wants what’s best for us, but if we think that means that He wants us to have the “American Dream” then we have made an idol that is not the true Jesus. If you truly and honestly told Jesus that you will give Him every part of your live and all of your possessions, relationships, status, mind, heart etc., what do you think He would ask you to do? Are you afraid to really do this? Are you afraid of what He might ask of you?
Jesus says that if you hold anything back, anything, then you cannot be His disciple, His words not mine. How would our churches change if we all honestly asked this question and the responded to the answer? Will you take time to do this today? Right now? I’d love to hear from you if you do or if you have any questions at all about this passage or blog.
